Technical experimentation undertaken between the world wars influenced the artistic field. The camera, as used by Man Ray in the studio and by Jacques-Henri Lartigue outside, among other examples, overturned the system of representation. In his drawing practice, Sanyu (1895-1966) also over-turned the academism of his era, through his use of sometimes « marginal » models.
