Hanae Mori (1926–2022) was a leading figure in Japanese fashion. Beginning her career in the 1950s, Mori made her name in costume design for film, while also fulfilling the roles of wife and mother. Her vibrant and tireless spirit embodied the lifestyle she herself coined as the “Vital Type”. This unwavering approach remained constant, even as she expanded her activities to New York and later Paris. Through approximately 300 works – including haute couture dresses, photographs, and archival materials – this catalogue for an exhibition marking the 100th anniversary of her birth illuminates the full range of Mori’s creativity, exploring her extraordinary philosophy of craftsmanship.
