This textbook is designed for Chinese language learners with zero starting proficiency. Based on the structure–situation–function approach, it takes grammatical structure as the backbone, embedding both structure and communicative functions within real-life situations. The emphasis is on helping learners master the fundamentals of the Chinese language. The content of the book revolves around students’ academic and daily lives, selecting settings such as school and other scenes closely related to their everyday experiences, in order to help them quickly adapt to both campus and daily life. The texts are mainly in dialogue form to meet learners’ basic communicative needs in Chinese.
Upon completing the two volumes of this textbook, students will have learned approximately 1,500 new words and 150 language points, reaching the equivalent of Level 2 of the new HSK standard.
